The psalmist wrote that “God has taken his place in the divine council, in the midst of the gods he holds judgement.” ( verse 1).
Come on, I ask. Who are these little so-and-so gods that God should even bother with them and even recognise them and ask, “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked?” Until I realise once again, that until God brings ‘these gods’ to the recognition that they are puny nobodies, they’ll just keep on heaping injustice upon injustice.
And if God has to demand “Give justice to the weak and orphan; maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked,” (verses3-4), then it’s not only the demigods who are to blame but all who let them get away with murder.
I’ll translate my hometown kweyol expression. It says, “You don’t have to kill someone to be a murderer.” How many of us are murderers for simply letting human beings be unjustly taken advantage of, and not deliver them from the hand of the wicked?
Then I understand why God would even give a hearing to the so-and-so’s because God gives us the encouragers a hearing too.
And like the psalmist I want to say to us, “I say, ‘You are gods, children of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless you shall die like mortals and fall like any prince’ (verses 6-7). A
God will mess up all messed-up unjust little gods who don’t wish to pray for and serve God’s justice.
