Welcome to Joan Delsol Meade

My background

Dominican by birth, Montserratian by adoption, I am truly a Caribbean woman with international experience. Home has been Dominica, Jamaica, Canada, Montserrat, Barbados, Montserrat, Dominica, the United Kingdom, Sint Eustatius, Montserrat, Sint Maarten, and, most recently, the Netherlands.

Trained in Christian Ministry at the United Theological College of the West Indies, I am a supernumerary Presbyter of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas. What this means is that I am no longer constrained by tight schedules of preaching, teaching, pastoral care and administration. I’m not allowed to refer to myself as “retired” but I’ve earned the right to space where I can garden, read, write, craft, or whatever, at my own pace.

Previously, I served 24/7; as a  pastor . My doctoral research in Pastoral Theology focused on Pastoral Care in Disaster; but I have other passions- creative writing, horticulture, art& craft, care of the environment, advocacy on behalf of children, and HIV/AIDS, My decision to pursue an M.A. in Advanced Child Protection was prompted by repeated encounters with children and youth whose emotional well-being  was adversely affected by the behaviour of persons who should have been guardians rather than pawn-brokers of these young lives. I have found this  training  helpful in my child advocacy role whether I worked in/for the church or the wider community which it’s called to serve.
