Indeed, without speech or language (verse 3) the audios and videos of the created order direct the hearer, the viewer, the feeler, the thinker, to the Creator by whose Word all this came into being. Even if you’re an atheist – that’s your choice to be- you recognise that there is, indeed, a fabulous and fascinating face to this constant yet constantly changing order. It mixes a surprising sequence of regular routine and discontinuous dynamic to fascinate the faithful and to dialogue with doubts of the sceptic.
“Their line” (verse 3) could be the mysterious message aired via myriads of marvellous melodies, or recorded through a regularity of rhythms, or presented by a plethora of possibilities beyond our wildest imaginations, beginning with the sun.
Through all these [the Creator?] ‘Has set a tabernacle for the sun, which like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, rejoices as a strong man to run a race.’ Mark you, I placed the question mark to allow the sceptic to continue doubting or the atheist to continue disbelieving while still enjoying creation with its absence of speech or language.
Language, is of course, limited, as we humans put it. Who’s to say that there isn’t language beyond our ability to communicate? We witness how the “sub-human” creatures send signals that faze us. We have not yet begun to grasp the messages that matter as they irradiate colours that confuse us and emit energies that ignite the rest of creation. We are just too small in the face of all this to understand all that. Not yet at least. Even if each one of us were to learn all that astrology, oceanology, biology, etc., were to teach us, there’d still be much more to learn.
If we were to complete the course of the sun, with all its intricacy, then we’d be older than Methuselah, and wiser than the sage, and still our knowledge would pale in comparison to the One “whose law is perfect” (verse7). Notice I didn’t say WHOSE law that is, because I still want to leave place for doubters to discuss and for pundits to ponder, even while I choose the challenge that claims “only the foolish say that God is not.”
