He’s got many bad experiences stored up in his memory, the psalmist, but he can still give praise. Memories such as the desolate pit with all its ramifications (verse 2); numerous evils that encompassed him ((verse 12). So many were they that he could not see, so numerous that they exceeded the number of hairs on his head! Lots of unpleasant experiences wrapped up in this phrase, “all those who seek to snatch away my life”. Wow!
And yet he praises God. And of course, that’s the reason why he praises God, for God is the Faithful Deliverer, the one who multiplies goodness and works on behalf of those who have no other Advocate.
The Lord leans to and listens to the cry of those who have no one else to hear them sob (v1). He snatches out of the helplessness of desolate pits and sets the unsteady on rock solid ground (v2). This Winner Generator puts a song on the lips of those who are voiceless (v3), repays the trust that is invested in God (v4), Done innumerable gracious deeds (v5), and does not demand meaningless giving and offerings(v5).
So then, doing God’s holy will is worth or. When evils abound and surround (v12) when shame and scorn are all too real (vv14-16), the Lord’s reward is vindication of the oppressed and salvation of the lost.
When like the writer we feel poor and needy, we have One who multiples goodness- in thought and deed and works for deliverance of those who have no other help. And when the going gets tough and it seems that deliverance is taking too long, know that God understands your impatience, and pray like the psalmist.
“You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God.
