Clear the way
bulldozing drought-stricken
desert hearts hard to heal
deserted deprived despoiled
scum of the earth
preparing a highway to heaven
Make way. Let Jesus pass through
And finish awkward attempts
At sanitising
blood cover wrong and wash out sin.
John telling vipers come clean
Deposit venom in Jordan’s stream
of liberation into a way
away out of captivity
from greed for too much
hunger for what cannot satisfy
Taste appetite for good
Refiner’s harsh healing fire
Make way. He’s coming.
Promised through prophets
long to appear
human hope would repair
save from eternal despair.
Deadly separation.
Eternal damnation.
The Word from before
newly become human to his core
fragile baby boy
sin’s hold to disrupt
to free from corrupt
agenda of killing while living-
from birth’s beginning
to deserved death’s parting
and all defilement in-between.
On this blessed Advent Day
May human hearts learn to pray
That on earth’s land
as in God’s hand
let love rule.
Make way and let Christ come
