Psalm 72- A prayer fit for a king
It was written for Solomon, seeking guidance and support for the king. What is a psalm were written for each one of us? How would it read? Would the petitions be similar?
(Verse 1) Would there be a request that I, that you receive justice in all our dealings? That we’d never be taken advantage of
(Verse 2) While we may not be placed to make judgements as mighty ones do, would me psalm petition that I look out for the less fortunate?
(Verse 3) Would there be a prayer for my prosperity and for those who depend on what only I can provide?
(Verse 4) Would there be a focus on the elimination of the oppressor just so that I have room to care for the oppressed?
(Verse 5) Would anyone pray that I live long enough just to be a blessing to others?
(Verse 6) Would there be prayers that I go on being a benefactor whose prosperity is gracious to others
Bringing peace and righteousness tom many? (Verse 7)
I ask the questions, not because I want to be a queen. Too late. The horse has already gone through the gate!
But maybe we should be praying for the invisible benefactors who do good to others, in whose scheme of things the welfare of others is foremost, in whose desire is for the well-being of others, the peace and prosperity of home, country and humanity.
Of course, pray for the kings and queen. The influence the affairs of so many.
But don’t forget to pray for the women and widows behind the scenes. They keep goodness going.
A prayer fit for the king might well be fit for many others.
