Inconveniences. Depending on one’s perspective, they present reason to appreciate the taken for granted-
Such as the when the weather changes suddenly and you must open your umbrella or throw your hoodie over your head. You can be thankful for those who thought about making such implements and garments, and you can be thankful that you own one or more of these.
And you might even think of those who have no place to shelter and remain exposed to changing weather situations. Your experience and reflection might even move you to support such persons materially or do something to help change their situation.
Failing- failing a test; failing to complete a project, any kind of failure is an inconvenience of sorts. But when you discover where and why you failed, you’re better placed to help another learn. The brightest students do not necessarily make the best teachers because they grasp things quickly and may never develop the knack for assisting those who don’t. On the other hand, some slow leaners make very good teachers. They are patient with those who can’t pick it up fast because they’ve been there. It’s not that I want anybody to fail, but rather that I’ve noticed how persons branded as failures come to be great teachers themselves.
Inconveniences and disappointments- they come in a myriad of ways. In the past year, I’ve had my fair share; but I remember very few of them because in most cases, the bright side won the day. On the other side of the downside is the upside one needs to find.
My mother would say, “Every disappointment is a blessing.” Of course, she meant to inspire us to persevere and to triumph through whatever seemed somewhat tough to handle. But her words stuck with me, I believe, through most of the disappointments I’ve been through. They were always there encouraging me to see the bright side and to anticpate the light that illumines the end of every dark tunnel.
This past year, I have had a fair share of successes too; but the word success itself needs redefinition if we fail to see the learning opportunities that failures provide.
